After reportedly expressing interest in former Cleveland Browns edge-rusher Jabaal Sheard earlier this week, the New England Patriots are hosting the free agent Tuesday night, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
A 6-foot-3, 264-pound defensive end slash outside linebacker, Sheard was drafted by the Browns in the second round of the 2011 NFL draft. The Pittsburgh product has since started 50 of his 61 games, recording 190 tackles, 23 sacks, 12 pass breakups and seven forced fumbles.
Sheard’s top season came as a rookie defensive end in the 4-3, when he posted 8.5 sacks and five forced fumbles to lead the Browns’ defense.
The 25-year-old posted two sacks this past season, starting five of 16 contests at outside linebacker in Cleveland’s 3-4 front.
