Kicker Stephen Gostkowski signed his one-year, $4.59 million tender with the New England Patriots Friday, according the NFL transaction wire, after being franchise-tagged earlier in the week.
ESPN’s Field Yates was first to report.
The 31-year-old Gostkowski went 35-of-37 on his field-goal attempts for New England last season, earning Pro Bowl and second-team All-Pro honors.
Gostkowski was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at 4 p.m. March 10. Though instead, the franchise’s all-time scoring leader will have his contract guaranteed for 2015.
The former Patriots fourth-round pick has until July 15 to agree to a long-term deal with the organization – something the Patriots are aiming for.
“Stephen has been extremely productive and a vital component to our success since joining our team in 2006,” the team said in a statement this past week. “Utilizing the franchise designation allows both sides more time to try to reach an agreement, which is the goal.”
