According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Patriots and director of player personnel Nick Caserio have reached a contract extension that will run through the 2020 season.
The 39-year-old Caserio has played an integral part in a 12-3 Patriots season, which has seen the midseason acquisitions of edge-rusher Akeem Ayers, linebacker Jonathan Casillas as well as defensive lineman Alan Branch pay immediate dividends on the field.
Caserio’s name had been linked to general manager openings over the course of 2014, and interviewed for the Miami Dolphins’ opening last offseason, but those plans now appear to be on hold.
A former John Carroll University quarterback, where he was teammates with Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, Caserio has been with the Patriots organization since 2001, when he was hired as a personnel assistant. Caserio has held the title of offensive coaching assistant, area scout, director of pro personnel and wide receivers coach since then.
He was promoted to director of player personnel in 2008.
