Week 17 could be the venue for fourth-round halfback James White and undrafted cornerback Malcolm Butler.
The New England Patriots will be without running back Jonas Gray and cornerback Alfonzo Dennard against the Buffalo Bills, the team announced in the official injury report Friday, furthering the attrition of the two positions.
Gray, who rushed for five yards and a touchdown in the process of suffering an ankle injury versus the New York Jets last Sunday, was limited in practice this week before becoming a non-participant on Friday. And Dennard, who was a healthy inactive in each of the last three games, landed on the report with a hamstring injury after final session of the week.
An additional 15 Patriots were limited Friday. All 15 are listed as questionable for the 1 p.m. regular-season finale at Gillette Stadium on Sunday.
The group includes fellow running backs LeGarrette Blount (shoulder) and Shane Vereen (ankle), wide receivers Julian Edelman (thigh/concussion) and Brandon LaFell (shoulder), offensive linemen Sebastian Vollmer (back), Dan Connolly (knee) and Cameron Fleming (ankle), defensive ends Chandler Jones (hip) and Rob Ninkovich (heel), linebackers Jamie Collins (hip), Dont’a Hightower (shoulder) and Chris White (ankle), cornerbacks Kyle Arrington (hamstring) and Brandon Browner (groin), as well as long snapper Danny Aiken (finger).
Blount, Edelman, Connolly and Arrington were held out of Week 16 with their ailments. Collins and Browner, meanwhile, were added to the injury report earlier this week.
Vollmer was added to the limited group on Friday.
Quarterback Tom Brady, who was a full participant leading up to Sunday’s meeting with Buffalo, rounds out New England’s injury report as probable.
As for Buffalo, the Bills have ruled out Pro Bowl defensive tackle Marcell Dareus due to a knee injury, and starting cornerback Stephon Gilmore due to a concussion. Safety Aaron Williams and kicker Dan Carpenter have been designated as probable to face the Patriots with hip and right groin injuries, respectively.
