The New England Patriots waived second-year safety Don Jones from the 53-man roster on Thursday, according to the NFL transaction wire.
Jones, a Miami Dolphins seventh-round draft pick in 2013, was originally claimed off waivers by the Patriots on Sept. 1. The 5-foot-11, 205-pound Arkansas State product went on to play in nine games with New England this season, recording six tackles on special teams as the gunner opposite captain Matthew Slater.
The 24-year-old has recorded 16 tackles and two forced fumbles over 25 career games.
No corresponding move has been made official. Jones is practice-squad eligible, should he clear waivers by 4 p.m. on Friday.
